Even the most devoted parent some times needs time to be an adult without children present. Working during the day means that your child probably spends some time in a day care program. Babysitting services for the evenings or weekends when you may want to have a time to have a date with your spouse or go out with a few friends can be more difficult to find. In order to fully enjoy your time out, you want to find care for your child that you trust.

It’s important to plan ahead for emergencies but the techniques can also be used to plan for an occasional leisurely evening out on the town. You should start by asking a regular day care center about evening or drop-in services. If your child is already accustomed to the facility, the anxiety will be at a lower level than otherwise. The difficulty with child care away from home is that the child must be awakened and moved from the center to home.

You may want to check babysitting, nanny or emergency child care services to find a qualified person. Don’t rely on last minute calling to find a sitter, do your checking ahead of time. If possible, the sitter should come to your home to meet and interact with your child before you leave. The child should not be left with someone who is a total stranger.

Internet websites can often help you find qualified personnel to do all sorts of services. Be sure you look for information about local providers and the experiences that your friends and neighbors have had with the sitter you are considering. Reviewing information and references carefully is always a good idea.

You might want to consider doing a sitter swap. Some parents get together and form a sitter coop so that they can trade off services on a regular basis. Time is scheduled for each parent or couple to watch children of others. This type of cooperative takes planning and regular communication to make it work.

Regardless of the type of babysitting services you select, be sure you do your due diligence about the person you are selecting. Ask for references and check them out. You should make certain that you are in compliance with reporting requirements for household employees.
