The Internet is perhaps one of the greatest inventions ever. It has leveled the playing field in many ways, and has proved itself as a new paradigm in many ways. But there are those that would like to use the Internet for destruction and evil purposes. These are the creators of the computer virus.
There are several different ways that these can come delivered covertly to our computers. Sometimes in a Trojan horse, virus, aptly named after the famous myth by Homer. It comes disguised as some helpful software, but in reality inside the software is something deviously designed to wreak havoc on all you’ve created.
Other kinds of software doesn’t intend to kill your computer, only to exploit it for financial gain for it’s creator. These are commonly referred to as adware programs, that collect information from you to better convince you to buy stuff. The problem with these is that they hog all your computer resources, making your computer appear as if you’d poured a jar of honey into it or something.
Other malicious software spreads through email, and doesn’t need to piggy back on other “free” software that you intentionally download. These are the worst kind. They can spread just as quickly, and be just as deadly as the bubonic plague, or Captain Tripps.
