Distinguishing The Cockroach Varieties

Usually, cockroaches are harmless. They are found all over the world, except for inhospitable places. Currently, there are more than four thousand species of roaches already identified, and three of these varieties are the ones that make human existence miserable because these 3 varieties refer to live where there are humans.

Distinguishing these roaches is quite easy & can aid in extermination methods. It could be the first step in irradication and control. Here are the three main common cockroaches.

American Cockroach

The American cockroach can grow up to 25mm in length. It has a reddish brown color and single stripe on the head. These roaches get easily attracted to liquor. Therefore, they are frequently found in pubs or at home after party where beer, wine and alcohol was present. They have a life span of up to one and half years. Their incubation period is from 6 to 8 weeks.

German Cockroach

These kinds of cockroach has two lighter stripes on the back of its head, and boast of a brownish or tan color. It can grow up to 15mm in length. It is probably breeds the fastest in comparison to its cousins, giving birth to around 30 to 40 nymphs with an incubation period of 30 days. At this rate, one cockroach can multiply into 30,000 in a year’s time. They can live for around six months.

Oriental Cockroach

They are probably the biggest of these three. It grows approximately 25mm in length. These insects move more slowly than the other cockroaches and are a dark brown to black with a shiny body. They are often known as the waterbug since these creatures love dark, damp hiding places. They are more commonly seen in damp mulch or cellars. The duration of incubation could be about 2 months with about 15 eggs hatching and; they can each live for up to 2 years.
