It’s difficult to deny the fact that cell phones are a big part of today’s world. However, what age should a child be before he or she is permitted to have a cell phone?

There are both advantages and disadvantages to letting kids have cell phones. One of the reasons against the idea is that if you give kids phones when they’re young, you’ll spoil them when they’re young. And giving expensive items to young kids may encourage them to continue to ask for pricey toys as they grow older. Having a phone gives kids a direct link to other kids and activities that may interfere with some of the more important parts of their lives, like school and studying.

Looking at it from another perspective, there are some advantages to kids having cell phones. With phones, kids need to become more responsible and tech-savvy at a young age. It’s also easier for them to call for help or for anything else they need urgently. If they have phones, you can stay in touch or check in any time you want. Letting them have a phone will make them feel they are trusted and give them more of a feeling of independence.

Considering all the above-mentioned pros and cons, it is safe to say that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. What is important is to still give them guidance in their use of their phones and do not buy the brands that are too expensive as it will just bring danger more than benefits. The bottom line here is it is the parents that could best decide for their own children knowing the type of personality their kids have. To them, a cell phone may be a necessity, a distraction, a luxury or just a fad.

It is the parents’ responsibility to either set limits or spoil their child when they provide their son or daughter with a cell phone. It is advisable to consider all of the aspects surrounding a child’s cell phone usage, and not just the advantages and disadvantages involved. These factors include the various cell phone features, the associated costs, where and when cell phone usage is permitted, and whether or not the child has access to the Internet. Depending on the perception of the parents, some of these features can be beneficial or inappropriate for children.
