Sometimes the difference between a great ad, that gets a ton of responses and one where you seem to be advertising to no-one can be some minor – it is the essence of good marketing that will set you apart.

Here is a few pointers and tips on the psychology behind marketing

You see, there are several mistakes most people make due to misunderstanding psychology, which result in their ads simply not working.

What is “marketing,” anyway? Here’s a neat way to think about it…

Marketing is getting inside peoples thoughts to bring your product into their consciousness

That might sound a little bit harsh, but here’s what I mean.

When you format any type of copy online, be that email web pages or a fully written follow up campaign. The basic reason you are putting the words together is to influence someone’s thinking.

More specifically, you are looking to introduce a state of mind for the person that sees your product as a must or want to have.

Now, the key idea here is that what you are trying to do is use your words to get your readers to think something.

When your advertising is more ‘Miss’ Than ‘Hit’, you know you have a problem

But how could that be?

You wrote out an advertisement so carefully. It even looks like all those other ones out there.

However, at the end when you are ‘counting the money’, the results are not where they need to be

So, with this in mind…. How do we start to influence our readers down the path we are suggesting?

Understanding basic human needs and wants (psychology) is the key…. When you know the buttons to push, you can start to influence people in the way you need to.

Of course, the field of psychology is huge — you can get a Ph.D. in it. But, here are 3 psychological tips you can use to your advantage.

Some of these tips may not be what you consider to be common ways of thinking, but fair warning… Not every common thinking is going to get your sales to rocket.

After all… Sometimes what you though really did make sense, didn’t get the results

If they had, then you probably wouldn’t have read this article!

Most people will tune out when they see something that is an ad.

For proof of this, just look at your own behavior.

Would you consider using your spare time for reading advertisements?

I wouldn’t think so.

People tend to classify an advertisement automatically as something ‘selling’ to them.

So, the best way to avoid looking like this is to actually give people some real information, for free.

This way, what you wrote won’t seem like an ad, because it actually isn’t one!

People will read it for your interesting info, and then when it’s time to talk about what you’re selling, they’ll really listen, too.

Try it.

When your ad looks like everyone elses, you are dead. You may as well not advertise at all.

We see this every where we look as all ads seem to fit into a certain mould – and that mould is un-original.

YOU WON’T BELIEVE THIS! $$$$$$ MAKE $10,000 FAST! THIS IS THE REAL DEAL, IT’S INCREDIBLE! etc…

Nobody even glances at this kind of thing anymore because it is the same as all the trash and they have become accustomed to it.

Make sure you don’t look like anyone else, and you’ll stand out.

If you are blending with the crowd, you are dead in online advertising.

Combine this with Tip #1 to come up with headlines and email subject lines which really communicate something interesting and meaningful.

You should always strive to give headlines and email subject lines that capture people’s attention – by offering something of value. Then later on you can make the sales in a lot easier way.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ TIP #3: At all costs, avoid making huge promises you know you can’t keep. Don’t hype. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

So many people nowadays make huge claims in their marketing; like if you sign up for a certain site it will make you $10,000 per week while you sleep.

You can’t honestly expect someone to fulfill those promises, they have no substance whatsoever.

People stop reading the ads at this point – as the alarm bell has been rung.

Another big one is promising people that a certain website is the “best” or the “biggest,” etc., when it really isn’t.

Of course, if Google make the claim of being the Biggest or The best… They have something to stand on, but all the other hype just turns people off.

Even if in your perspective it IS the greatest site released in the last 10 years, people still will not hear your message, because it has lost it’s weight (see Tip #2).

This maybe an alien concept for you as it seems you SHOULD say great things about your site, product or service so that people WANT to go there.

The problem is, this just isn’t how psychology works.

Instead – the keys are that you must be subtle. Get people to pay attention and different than the others.

Let your actual website or product make them say “wow.”

And if the reason that you are hyping up the marketing – is that you are concerned the website itself is not going to deliver that WOW factor, you need to revise the site and work out a way to make whatever it is you are selling powerful enough to bring get the message across
