CNAs are an integral part of a heath care team. They support doctors and nurses in patient care and patient services. This job is always in demand and has a higher than average pay scale. CNAs are the front line employees in hospitals, nursing homes, and doctors offices. This is only a brief CNA job description.

CNAs do most of the hands on work for patients. They are responsible for a great many things depending on which aspect of heath care they work in. Each section of heath care includes a new job description for the CNA.

If you are in a hospital you will see CNAs taking care of patients needs, getting them things like blankets and water. They also take vitals like temperature and heart rate as well as blood pressure. They make sure that the patient is comfortable and are responsible for helping the patient go to the toilet or bath. Different hospitals vary as to what the CNAs duties are.

In a medical office the CNA often does double duty working at the desk and helping the patient with care. Most times they are required to assist the doctor, clean patient rooms, and take vitals. Each doctor has different duties that they will want the CNA to perform. Some CNAs will also do filing and get the records ready for the doctor.

Another place a CNA might work is in a nursing home. These are similar to hospitals in that a CNA will take vitals, check on patients, and give baths. There is a lot of patient interaction in a nursing home and sometimes patients will need to be hand fed or cleaned up. A CNA will also report to the nurse when there is an issue or something further is needed.

CNAs can also work privately. They can become home care assistants and work with people individually. Home health aids sometimes require another certification but most times do not. All of the duties you have in a nursing home or hospital can also be done at home. Some home health aids will run errands or do light cooking and cleaning as well.

Being a CNA takes compassion, a love for people, and patience. You can do well in this profession if you possess these characteristics. The CNA job description changes as the environment changes.
